The WEEROONA was a well known paddle steamer that plied Port Phillip Bay.During its heyday it was faster to travel to Melbourne by steamer than by any other means.
Built in 1910 at Glasgow, Scotland for Huddart Parker & Co. , she weighed 1410 tons.
Essentially the Weeroona represented a larger edition of her sister ships the OZONE and HYGEIA , two other famous paddle steamers plying the local waters of Port Phillip Bay.
The Weeroona’s appointments for passenger comforts left nothing to be desired. In addition to the usual sumptuous lounges, dining salons, and bar, she boasted a bookstall and stylish hairdressing salon. She was one of the largest excursion steamers ever built and was extremely popular in her day.
After almost thirty-two years of service the Weeroona ran her final trip on Sunday 2 March 1942.
