Popularly known in its day as the Blue Anchor Line it was established by Wilhelm Lund in 1869. Lund began his services on a triangular route taking cargo and passengers to Australia then northward to China to load tea and back home to England.

At this time Australia’s wool produce had become very popular in England; a fact which Lund took advantage of.

During the next ten years Lund’s Blue anchor Line became well known in both countries.

In 1910 Lunds Line went into liquidation. The remaining assets of the company were purchased by P&O. They retained the same route and renamed their new service P&O BRANCH SERVICE.
