One of Australia’s greatest ore mining concerns B.H.P. introduced the first bulk carriers in Australian coastal waters in 1943. These were named the Iron Duke and the Iron Monarch. Their function was to carry iron ore from Whyalla to Newcastle.
B.H.P. still remains today as one of the major Australian Companies.
