Formed in 1957 by the Australian government. At this time, the government was worried about the sorry state of the shipping companies, many of whom were going into receivership.
This commission was formed to ensure a sustained coastal shipping service. This flag was used for a number of years until it was replaced by the modern A.N.L. flag (Australian National Lines).
